Covid-19 pandemic: How common is Covid in kids? Hillside

  Volunteers

In the United States, as of September 16, more than 5.5 million kids and adolescents have tested positive for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. This represents 15.7% of all cases, albeit in people under the age of 18. They represent 22.2 percent of the American population. However, after declining in early summer, pediatric cases have increased exponentially and represented a larger share of the total: 25.7% in the week ending September 16, or nearly 226,000 cases. Coinciding with the increase in circulation of the Delta variant, it has resulted in more Covid-related hospitalizations among kids and adolescents, although severe cases remain proportionately rare.
